FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Pet birds: care, feeding and species

What do pet birds eat?

A seed-only diet falls short: the base should be extruded pellets for the species, completed with fresh vegetables and a little fruit. Seeds are a treat, not the main course.

How big does a cage need to be?

The bird must be able to stretch its wings and hop between perches without touching the bars: for a budgerigar, at least 60 cm wide; for a canary or a small parrot, from 80 cm.

Do birds need to bathe?

Yes. Most enjoy it and it keeps the plumage in good condition: offer a shallow dish or spray lightly with lukewarm water two or three times a week, always in the morning.
